News from far Southwest Virginia

Monday a bipartisan group of legislators held press conferences to ask Appalachian Power to withdraw a rate increase request, the Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports.
“We’ve asked AEP to withdraw,” Sen. Phillip Puckett, D-Russell, said. “We think it is the right action to take right now. There are certain things the law says Appalachian Power is entitled to. But we are trying to make the case that they just had a significant rate increase, and it is too early to be asking for another one. And considering the hard economic times we are in, we think AEP should share the pain.”
Other legislators at the press conferences included Sen. Roscoe Reynolds, D-Martinsville, Sen. William C. Wampler, R-Bristol, Delegates Ward Armstrong, D-Henry, House Minority Leader, Daniel C. “Dan” Bowling, D-Tazewell, Bill Carrico, R-Grayson, Anne B. Crockett-Stark, R-Wythe, Joseph P. Johnson Jr., D-Washington, Terry G. Kilgore, R-Scott, Danny Marshall III, R-Danville, Donald Merricks, R-Danville, Dave Nutter, R-Montgomery, Clarence E. “Bud” Phillips, D-Russell and Charles Poindexter, R-Franklin.
